Glass Gem corn, a marvel of agricultural artistry, traces its origins to Carl Barnes, a Cherokee farmer from Oklahoma. In the late 19th century, Barnes began selectively cross-breeding various Native American corn varieties, aiming to revive and preserve their vibrant colors. His meticulous efforts led to the creation of Glass Gem corn, renowned for its stunningly translucent kernels resembling precious gemstones. Initially cultivated for its aesthetic appeal and cultural significance, Glass Gem corn has also found practical uses in ornamental displays, traditional ceremonies, and culinary ventures. Its kernels, bursting with hues ranging from sapphire blues to ruby reds, have inspired artists, chefs, and gardeners alike, celebrating both the diversity of corn and the ingenuity of those who cultivate it.

We grow this organically on our farm every year to keep the seeds going.  And share them with NZ.  They are a fun and colourful corn to grow for enthusiasts.
